The Tourism ministry has planned a mega festival in October to showcase the country's products for international and domestic visitors.
The Kenya Tourism Festival (KTF 2018) will entail a tourism seminar, chef awards, beading exhibition, an investment forum, and a tourism expo.
Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala said this will be an extension of the official celebration of World Tourism Day 2018 to be held in Budapest, Hungary on September 27.
This year's theme is Tourism and the digital transformation.
During a breakfast launch of the event, Balala said the new calendar will help improve tourists' experience as well as increase their stay in the country.
"The current traveller is keen on more experiences and options for choice. Therefore, the festival seeks to meet some of those aspirations," the CS said.
The mega festival will start with a tourism seminar for networking and sharing the latest trends in the tourism sector.
Later in the evening, the ministry will hold the 'Chef’s Delight Awards'. This will be to celebrate the country’s best chef and restaurant teams as graded by their regular customers.
The ministry will then open up 'Beads or Ushanga Festival' from September 27-29.
In this fete, women from seven communities will showcase different beading works.
"The objective of this activity will be to strengthen the business and production skills of pastoralist women and youth from the seven target counties," Balala said.
On October 4 the ministry has planned the 'Africa Hotel Investment Forum' (AHIF) which will bring together investors, developers, owners, and operators within Africa tourism sector.
Financiers and intermediaries such as architects, transaction advisors, and senior policymakers in government from the global tourism sector will also be engaged in this session.
The ministry will run 'Magical Kenya Travel Expo' (MKTE) 2018 from October 3 to October 5, a regional tourism trade fair that will bring on board hosted buyers from across the globe.
Travel agents, tour operators, hoteliers, and trade media from Kenya’s key tourism will showcase their products at the said expo.
President Uhuru Kenyatta will officially launch KTF on October 3 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
