From the GM,s desk
It always comes as a shock when I open the diary and realise that we are already half way through the year, and this year was no exception. The hotel has had a good start to 2018 and for the first time in a long time it has even remained busy in the months of May and June which is probably why the time seems to have passed even faster.
The rains have come in abundance, throughout Kenya, and this has produced its challenges but, as always, the Kenyan people just smile and get on with life. We are now enjoying lots of sunny days and seeing increasing numbers of families joining us for their various summer breaks but it keeps the place lively throughout the months of June through to August.
This year we hosted our first Mountain Bike Challenge, which was a great success, and even attracted such seasoned veterans of the sport as David Kinja who was the man that first encouraged the now famous, Chris Froome, to take up the sport. He quite nonchalantly arrived for the Saturday event by bike having cycled up from Mombasa the day before. An inspirational character indeed, and it shows that you are never too old to take up the sport. He actually won the main event by a country mile as well. So bikers reading….. this why not see if you can bring your wheels and join in the fun next time….it was only a 64 kilometre ride!!!
We now see so many of our friends, old and new, booking up again for the coming season, which is lovely, and we look forward to welcoming you all back but in the mean time we hope you enjoy a delightful Summer wherever you are and that the weather is kind to you…….understatement looking at the weather reports from Europe!!
Warm regards from a hot and sunny Watamu!!
